THIS WAS THE FINAL FAMILIES ON FARMS FOR 2019!

WE HAD A SMALLER BUT VERY ENGAGED GROUP ALONG WITH CHRIS HERMANN FROM THE WESTERN COLORADO COMMUNITY FOUNDATION.  IN OUR TIME WITH MARK, HE SHARED THE NATURE OF THE MANY RADISH FAMILY ROOTS WE WERE GOING TO BE ENJOYING. IT WAS PACKED FULL OF MORE INFORMATION SHARING FROM ME ON THE NUTRITIONAL AND ENERGETIC IMPORTANCE OF UTILIZING THE MANY STORABLE VEGETABLES THROUGH THE COLD MONTHS. WE ALSO COVERED,  AGAIN,  THE IMPORTANCE OF TRACE MINERALS IN THE DIET THROUGH USING SEA VEGETABLES FOR STOCKS, BONE BROTHS, HIGH QUALITY SEA SALTS AND THE FUNCTIONS OF TRACE MINERALS THROUGHOUT OUR SYSTEM.  WE THEN WENT ON TO CREATE A DELICIOUS AND NUTRITIONALLY DENSE POTATO LEEK SOUP FROM MARK’S MULTIPLE TYPES OF POTATOES, EACH WITH UNIQUE CHARACTERISTICS AND YOUNG LEEKS WITH A TERRIFIC STOCK.  FOLKS WERE SURPRISED AND WARMED AT THE SATISFYING CREAMINESS OF THE SOUP!  THEY WERE EAGER TO MAKE AT HOME AS IT IS A VERY SIMPLE SOUP TO PREPARE.  OUR ROASTED ROOT VEGETABLE DISH WITH 8 TYPES OF RADISHES SIMPLY PREPARED WITH OLIVE OIL SALT AND PEPPER WAS ALSO SO SURPRISINGLY BEAUTIFUL TO LOOK AT WITH THE COLORS RANGING FROM BLACK TO GREEN, ROSE, GOLDEN, PURPLE AND WHITE. THE BLEND OF FLAVORS BEING A REVELATION FOR EVERYONE AS IT, TOO, IS AMAZINGLY SIMPLE TO PREPARE YET,  OH SO SATISFYING!  OUR BREAD WAS EXCELLENT AS THE OVEN WORKED THIS TIME – BUT EVERYONE FROM THE LAST CLASS SAID THEIR FARM-FAILED-PARTIALLY-COOKED-BREAD-DOUGH FROM LAST CLASS THAT THEY TOOK HOME WAS SO DELICIOUS AND FAMILIES LOVED IT.  YAY!   DISASTER TURNED SUCCESSFUL!!

LASTLY WE HAD A FANTASTIC AND AGAIN SO EASY TO PREPARE STONE FRUIT COMPOTE WITH GINGER. GUARANTEED TO SATISFY AND OH, SO VERY SIMPLE TO MAKE FROM LOCAL DRIED STONE FRUITS.  THIS DESSERT CAN AID WITH BRONCHIAL CHALLENGES IN WINTER AND THEY LOVED IT!

 

MY ONLY REGRET FOR OUR LAST CLASS WAS THAT MORE FOLKS DIDN’T GET TO EXPERIENCE THESE FARM SOURCED, EXCELLENT COLD WEATHER STORABLE FOODS, SIMPLY AND SATISFYINGLY PREPARED!!
